St Patrick's and Peeks

St Patrick's and Peeks

St Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland, is for obvious reasons synonymous with the Emerald Isle – even though he was WELSH!

Experts believe the birthplace of the saint was likely to be in Strathclyde in Scotland – a Welsh-speaking area at the time in the fifth century. Others think he hailed from St David’s in Pembrokeshire.

What is certain is that he wasn’t Irish. When he was a teenager he was captured from his home in Great Britain and taken as a slave to Ireland. He escaped, returned to his family then became a cleric and returned to the country where he had ben enslaved.

By the seventh century he had become the patron saint of Ireland. However, the most important thing about him is his legacy – St Patrick’s Day on March 17.

It is a date that Peeks has been observing for over 60 years. And this year we have a host of green-themed goodies to make any party go with a swing.

Our leprechauns have been busy stocking our massive party store with everything green, ready for the big day that is celebrated by the Irish diaspora around the world.

Guinness, that famous Irish drink, is famously good for you, and so is a trip to Peeks or a browse of our website. We have everything; balloons, banners, hats, party packs and shamrocks. There is bunting, flags, tableware, fancy dress, clovers and green glitter.
